Despite suffering social fatigue after month's of lockdown in England, including two weeks of isolation, the newly appointed general manager of the New Zealand String Quartet (NZSQ) is relishing the dynamism of his role.

"I don't think there is a typical day really. It's stimulating, lots of variety," Marcus says.

"You might have to sweep a few floors as well as balance the budget."

From planning programmes, to welcoming audiences, posting on social media, and writing reports, Marcus explains to Upbeat host David Morriss why the emphasis should be on 'general' manager.

"If it's got to be done an arts manager will be doing it", he says wryly.

The New Zealand String Quartet embarks on their 2021 National Tour on August 15 and continue until September 25.

The two programmes explore a range of pieces from Mozart's String Quartet K575 to Gareth Farr's Te Koanga.

Music details:

RAVEL: String Quartet in F, 1st movement, played by the New Zealand String Quartet
