This Easter weekend, Tauranga will play host to the 58th National Jazz Festival.

Main stage highlights of this year's festival include the Kevin Field Supergroup, and a tribute to the late pianist, composer, teacher and broadcaster Phil Broadhurst. The Bay of Plenty Symphonia and pianist Soomin Kim will present a programme of music by Duke Ellington, Scott Joplin, and George Gershwin, and the Downtown Carnival brings multiple stages and performers to the Strand, in the heart of the city.

As part of the festival, the 43rd National Jazz Youth Competition will put the spotlight on the stars of the future. Manager of the competition, Liam Ryan, talks to David Morriss about the programme for this year's festival.
