Auckland composer Dr Glenda Keam became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours this year.

The honour recognises how Associate Professor Glenda Keam has turned the University of Canterbury’s School of Music into a vibrant, world-class hub of new music performance and composition during her seven years at the helm.

And she’s done that while also serving on the International Society for Contemporary Music becoming its first female President in 2019, all the while continuing her work as a composer.

Dr Keam recently retired as the University of Canterbury’s Head of Music, but will maintain her links with the School of Music through doctoral students and numerous music-related opportunities.
