Anyone who’s ever been inside Marsden Books in the Wellington suburb of Karori will tell you the first thing that hits when you walk through the door (apart from the masses of books) is the beautiful music.

Owner Anna Hunt is a keen music lover who sings in a choir and has owned the bookshop for almost twenty years – through the rise of online shopping, the kindle and Covid. In a month or so she will close the door for the last time herself and hand the keys to new owner Briony Hogg.

Anna came in to RNZ last week to talk about the challenges of being an independent bookshop owner and why books and music seem so interlinked.
