Pianist and music educator Rae de Lisle is well-known for her remedial work with pianists recovering from focal dystonia and other performance-related injuries. And she’s highly sought out as a teacher: Associate Professor of Piano at Auckland University, with many exceptional pianists as her former students, including Somi Kim, Jason Bae and John Chen.
Rae’s just released a new CD Morgen on the Atoll label with her son-in-law, cellist Andrew Joyce. Daughter Julia Joyce also plays viola on several tracks.
Rae de Lisle talks with David Morriss about her album (the first since her own performance-related injury 25 years ago), the teaching resource she's developed Fit 4 Piano to give pianists at all levels the skills for effective playing technique, and the joy of making music with family.
