In February, Sue Densem was appointed Music Director of the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir. She is only the second female Music Director in the 32-year history of the NZSSC.

Sue’s very well known in vocal and choral circles, particularly in Christchurch. She’s an itinerant voice teacher at Burnside High and conducts the school’s choirs – with quite a few successes at The Big Sing. Sue’s also directed the Jubilate Singers and the University of Canterbury’s chamber choir Consortia.

She’s taking the choir on a five-concert tour through late September and into early October heading to Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch. The choir will be performing as part of the SCAPE Public Art Festival at the Christchurch Art Gallery.

The Choir will visit the North Island in January, then in April and May the choir is heading to Europe. It’s the first time the Choir would have visited the continent.

She tells David Morriss about the work the students have put in to reach their best and what audiences can expect from this talented group of singers.
