He’s bringing his versatility to New Zealand this week when he performs Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

The in-demand pianist was described by The London Times as a “combination of total spontaneity and meditated ripeness that only great pianists have”.

He talks to David Morriss about his time in New Zealand, performing with some of the finest orchestras in the world and co-founding a music festival.

Louis Lortie performs with the NZSO in Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch between 6 and 14 September.
