Original conductor of Landscapes, Tadaaki Otaka pulled out just 10 days ago because of illness.

Thankfully Daniel Blendulf was available to help.

This is Daniel’s second visit to New Zealand – he was here in 2015 conducting the NZSO, with his wife, violinist Janine Jansen, as soloist.

But he’s much more than just “Mr Janine Jansen”. this season alone he’s debuting with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Flanders Symphony Orchestra, and he has return engagements in Wales, Australia and Germany.

He’s also currently the Chief Conductor of the Dala Sinfonietta in his native Sweden.

A recent highlight for Daniel Blendulf was touring Japan with his former cello teacher Torleif Thedéen.

He speaks to David Morriss about working with the APO and stepping up at the last minute.
