This follows the retirement of Peter Walls in late 2018. Gibson has worked alongside the former CE.

Gibson has a long-standing and prominent association with music, with experience in performing, teaching and arts management both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

An oboist, she has worked with leading orchestras and chamber ensembles and has developed work in the education sector with Lincoln and Otago Universities.

She is a familiar face for ensembles for the NZCT Chamber Music Concert, having coached groups.

“I am deeply committed to the arts scene in Aotearoa and chamber music is a powerful means of connecting people,” Gibson said in a statement released by Chamber Music New Zealand.

“I believe in the potential of transformative experiences through ‘music up close’/ ‘puoro taupiri’ and envisage a future where music in Aotearoa inspires creativity and plays an essential role in well-being and connectedness.”

A key focus for Gibson in her work has been helping grow young musicians. She hopes to continue to do that in her new role and broaden the reach of chamber music in New Zealand to new communities.
