Music Director Edo de Waart and Grammy Award winner Augustin Hadelich join forces to present de Waart’s third Masterworks concert for 2018 with the NZSO. After working with Hadelich before, de Waart describes him as a beautiful player and one of the few violin virtuosi who can do justice to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto.  Thirty-four year old Hadelich has, says the NZSO over the past decade entered the upper echelon of the violin world and is now regarded as a ‘must-see’.

 

1.30pm: Latinaotearoa

Multi-genre Latin music group Latinaotearoa has just finished a raucous tour of Australia and New Zealand in the wake of the release of the group’s new album of revitalisations of some Latin classics. Shaun D Wilson caught up with DJ and producer Bobby Brazuka who is half of Latinaotearoa along with Venezuelan singer Jennifer Zea.

 

2pm:  Shostakovich’s The Lady and the Hooligan:  a ballet score drawn from a number of Shostakovich works. The ballet vividly conveys the characters and their dramatic story, based on a screenplay for a 1918 silent film by Vladimir Mayakovsky.  The ballet is played by the Russian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Gorenstein.
