New Zealand School of Music Orchestra is working with the Orpheus Choir for the first time this weekend to give a performance of the full orchestral version of the Duruflé Requiem, sometimes called the ultimate desert island disc because it’s so beautiful.

Conductor Kenneth Young has been obsessed with the work since he was about 17, and Orpheus Music Director Brent Stewart is equally enthusiastic.

The night starts with Dvorak’s Te Deum and includes Leonie Holme’s 'Frond'.

Kenneth Young and Brent Stewart have known each other a long time  – Brent was Ken’s first conducting student.

The duo joined Eva Radich in the studio to discuss the momentous occasion.
