NZ Fest's Field of Poppies

The Wellington church of St Mary of the Angels is a magnificent example of the Gothic Revival architectural style. The Category one historic building re-opened late last year after extensive renovation and earthquake strengthening.

It’s the venue for this year’s New Zealand Festival Chamber Music series, and tonight there’s a concert from internationally renowned New Zealand organist Paul Rosoman and the Monarch Brass Collective.

Their concert seems particularly well-timed for this final year of commemorations surrounding the centenary of the First World War; Fields of Poppies is being billed as “a reflection on conflict and peace through music – whether as a call to war or a lament for the fallen”.
