Roland Kommerell, the president of Decca Records in its boom time, has died at the age of 86. We look back at his contribution to the industry, from the Three Tenors to bringing back composers banned by the Nazis, including Mendelssohn.

1pm Review: OrphEus

Michael Parmenter’s new opera ballet OrphEus opened at the Auckland Arts Festival on Friday. It traces the love story Orpheus and Eurydice through the music of many composers, with a cast of 58 including dancers, opera singers and live musicians. Justin Gregory was in the audience.

1.30pm Review: King’s Singers

The King’s Singers celebrate 50 years with performances in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. The group was joined by Voices New Zealand who are marking 20 years. How did the two choirs combine their voices? And was it a performance worthy of a celebration? Peter Mechen was there.
