Life’s complexities in New Zealand between the 1940s and 1980s has been captured and presented in a series of photographs at the Auckland Art Gallery.

The series The Us in I documents a period of upheaval and optimism - from anti-Vietnam war protests to Royal visits. Curator Julia Waite takes us through the process of telling our history in this way.

The photographs were all of people taken in public spaces around New Zealand over that 40 year period.
