Pianist Lixin Zhang is only 21, but he's already helping out other talented young musicians.
He founded ToneAce Academy in Christchurch last year, with the aim of promoting musical excellence in New Zealand.
Recently, ToneAce launched the Neville Baird Impact Program which focuses on talented children from underprivileged backgrounds. Proceeds raised from donations, fundraising concerts, and other events will go towards helping these students cover the cost of taking music lessons, entering exams, and participating in competitions and performances.
Lixin talked with David Morriss about ToneAce Academy, how his own studies are going, and his preparation for the Sydney International Piano Competition: he's the only New Zealand competitor out of the 32 pianists selected to compete this July.
