Introduction to Huia

From Summer Sonic, 12:00 pm on 9 January 2017

Indra Hughes brings a personal approach to Summer Sonic with a strong West Auckland thread, where this Lancashire lad now lives.

This programme includes a beautiful bassoon concerto by Capel Bond, Indra’s eighteenth-century predecessor as Organist of Holy Trinity, Coventry, which was his first job after University. Ben Hoadley talks about his 2013 composition 'Huia' which is a depiction of the beautiful location where Indra lives, and there’s a recording of the première of that piece played by the APO with a link to a video of that performance.  And he includes his recommendation for the best recording of the Saint-Saens’ Organ Symphony.
