Rising stars, a celebration of Matariki

From Pick and Mix

We celebrate some of the rising stars of classical music from within Aotearoa and the wider world.

English saxophone player Jess Gillam has had a meteoric rise to the top of the classical charts with "Rise" and she's just out of her teens.

The New Zealand Youth Choir has been the inspiration for many of our best professional singers for 40 years. The choir celebrates its 40th birthday in a joint concert with the NZSO National Youth Orchestra which is marking sixty years.

Kishi Bashi is the pseudonym for Californian violin virtuoso K Ishibashi. His family background is Japanese and his new album “Omoiyari” is his musical reaction to the suffering of immigrants in the US under the current political regime.

Adrian Hollay from RNZ has won the gold award for Best Live Sound for his recording of  Neil Finn’s "Out of Silence" concerts with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and featuring a crowded house of Finns and friends. We pick some Neil Finn songs you know and love.
