Welcome to another programme of music from the Whakatipu Music Festival in Queenstown. We have more music by NZ’s emerging artists for you. The Whakatipu Music Festival was initiated by the organisers of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition. Because of Covid the competition couldn’t be held. But instead the team organised the festival to give younger Kiwi musicians a platform to perform.
In this programme we have violinist KiHei Lee, pianist Jessica Chi, and first, viola player Cecile McNeill. Cecile has played with some of New Zealand’s orchestras, like the APO. Today she’s joined by pianist Stephen De Pledge.
Next, we have violinist KiHei Lee. KiHei studied at the University of Auckland and is a member of the violin duo Felice Duet, which won the 2019 Royal Overseas League Scholarship. That opens up performance opportunities in the UK. She’s accompanied by Xuan Liu.
We have one more performer for you in this programme from the 2022 Whakatipu Music Festival. And that is pianist Jessica Chi. She studies piano performance at the University of Auckland.
She kicks things off with the first movement of Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata. That’s Piano Sonata No 21 in C, Op 53.
Produced and engineered by Adrian Hollay.
