Performed by Indra Hughes on the Auckland Town Hall Organ, 13 August 2021.
One of the 'Great Eighteen Chorale Preludes', this is, in Indra Hughes's words, "unquestionably one of Bach's most serenely lyrical, rapturous pieces".
He goes on to point out that it was one of Mendelssohn's favourite pieces, and when Schumann heard him play it, he said it was "as priceless, deep and full of soul as any piece of music that ever sprang from a true artist's imagination ... the melody seemed interlaced with garlands of gold".
