Ravel took his title for this 1911 suite of eight waltzes from Schubert, who had published two sets of waltzes – one Valse nobles, and the other Valses sentimentales.

In Schubert, you know which ones are noble and which are sentimental. Not so clear-cut with Ravel – he doesn't specify. Maybe each of the pieces is both noble and sentimental.
