At previous concerts with this particular group of musicians, Hall and Kim were technically playing as guests.

This is the first of NZTrio's Home Series of concerts for 2020 and it comes just a few weeks after emerging from Covid-19 lockdown.

The concert comes with the title ‘Origins’. Because this is the first official concert that the trio gives with the established new line-up, they’ve decided to feature some music from the countries of their ancestral heritage.

So they play music from the UK by Mark-Anthony Turnage (because Brown has English-Irish-Scottish heritage) and from Korea by Isang Yun (because Kim was born in Korea).

In between those, the world premiere of a new work by Wellington composer Sarah Ballard, inspired by the culture and music of India (Hall's grandfather was Indian).

Programme:

BEETHOVEN: Piano Trio No 5 in D Op 70/1, Ghost;
TURNAGE: A Fast Stomp;
Sarah BALLARD: Prema Lahari (première);
Isang YUN: Piano Trio;
ZEMLINSKY: Piano Trio in D minor Op 3
