3.00pm Wallace National Piano Competition 2019 - Programme 2
This is the fourth Wallace competition – they are held every second year. The previous winners are Jason Bae, Delvan Lin and Lixin Zhang. This year the adjudicator was British pianist Charles Owen, who’s Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School in London.
Each of the four finalists is required to play a 45-minute recital.
Today we’ve got selected performances from Frank Chen and Tony Yan Tong Chen.
Frank Chen is from Auckland. At the time of the competition he was completing a Masters degree at Auckland University, studying with Richard Liu and Stephen De Pledge.
Tony Yan Tong Chen is currently studying at the Eastman School of Music in New York.

Scottish composer and conductor Sir James Macmillan leads our National Youth Orchestra in a concert including his own best-known work.
