An American in Paris & Moser plays Bach

9.30 Johannes Moser plays Bach
Septura is a brass septet from the United Kingdom touring with Chamber Music New Zealand.
It brings together leading players from the London scene: trumpeters Simon Cox, Huw Morgan and Alan Thomas, trombonists Matthew Knight, Matthew Gee and Dan West, and tuba player Pete Smith.
The combination of three trumpets, three trombones and a tuba is a standard grouping taken from the brass section of the orchestra (minus the French horns).
But strangely, as a chamber ensemble, this is a completely new invention. The group found that they had absolutely no existing repertoire to play. So they just had to go out and create their own, and a large part of what they’ve created is arrangements of other pieces.
By creating a canon of transcriptions, arrangements and new commissions for this brand new classical configuration, Septura aims to re-cast the brass ensemble as a serious artistic medium.
