8:00 Simon O'Neill in Concert with Iain Paterson and Terence Dennis
An evening of opera, lieder and song linked together with banter and anecdote.
Simon O'Neill doesn’t need much of an introduction here – he has a huge international career and he’s the most recognised New Zealand opera singer since Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Donald McIntyre.
In this recital he’s joined by friend, colleague, and fellow Wagnerian, the Scottish bass-baritone Iain Paterson, and they’ll be accompanied by pianist Terence Dennis.
They perform a programme of opera, lieder and song linked together with banter and anecdote – a style of recital, they say, inspired by those given in the 1970s by the American singers Richard Tucker and Robert Merrill.
But they also welcome two special guests: prize-winners of the 2019 Circle 100 Scholarship, tenor Manase Latu and bass Samson Setu. They’ll sing an item each.
Simon O'Neill (tenor), Iain Paterson (bass-baritone), Manase Latu (tenor), Samson Setu (bass-baritone), Terence Dennis (piano)
