2018 New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir
2018 New Zealand Secondary Students Choir conducted by Andrew Withington
As the choir leaves for the Hong Kong Choral Festival this week we hear their most recent Wellington concert including music by Pachelbel, Puanaki whanau and Eric Whitacre.
The auditioned choir is made up of 55 students from secondary schools throughout the country and it operates on a two year cycle that finishes with an overseas tour. So the current choir is the 2017/2018 NZSSC and in July they’ll complete their cycle with a tour to Hong Kong and Shanghai.
The experience of being part of NZSSC aims to extend students’ choral excellence, and to develop their leadership capabilities so that in time, they may become key contributors to the New Zealand arts scene.
The artistic team is Dr Andrew Withington artistic director and conductor, and assistant directors Rachel Alexander (also the vocal coach) and Brent Stewart (who is also the piano accompanist).
