NZTrio: Loft Series 2014 “Ritual Triptych”

Both versatile and genre-busting, NZTrio epitomises the relevance of live music in a digital age. This group smashes preconceptions of classical music being stuffy and intimidating by engaging their listeners with intimate and dynamic performances.

Ritual Triptych showcases NZTrio’s commission, from Auckland composer John Elmsly, contrasted by Salvatore Sciarrone’s delicate and breathless Piano Trio No. 2. The survey of Beethoven’s Op. 1 trios continues with the gentle G major trio; the evening is brought to a close with Felix Mendelssohn’s luscious and tuneful C minor Piano Trio.
