Despite living in the United States for most of her life, composer Thea Musgrave will always remain a Scot at heart. She studied, first in Edinburgh, and then with the legendary Nadia Boulanger in Paris. She has gone on to have a successful career writing music in many genres: orchestral, choral, operatic, and chamber.
Hannah Darroch spoke to Musgrave recently about her life and works, and you can hear some of what the composer had to say in the programme. Key points are her love of drama and her drawing of inspiration from other art forms. (Photograph: Christian Steiner.)
