The week beginning 4 December 2012
Monday: Composer of the Week - Joaquin Rodrigo
Roger Wilson introduces the Marquis of the Gardens of Aranjuez.
Wednesday: Arnold Trowell, Cellist from the Colonies
Martin Griffiths re-introduces Arnold Trowell (1887-1966), a man all but forgotten in New Zealand today except as a minor character in the life of Katherine Mansfield. In his day however, based in London, he was one of the best cellists in the world. His compositions, which fell out of favour for their conventionality, are skilfully written and can charm with their directness, humour and naivety (RNZ)
Thursday: Debussy at the stage door
Elric Hooper and Des Wilson discuss Debussy’s works for the musical stage, in particular his major opera Pelléas & Mélisande (RNZ)
Friday: The Critic's Chair
Julie Sperring reviews recent releases (RNZ)
