Destyn Maloya originate from Réunion, a small volcanic island in the Indian Ocean situated east of Madagascar.

This dynamic band performs Maloyan dance music: songs of slavery that emerged during hundreds of years of French colonial rule on the island and has strong links to Creole culture, but also draws upon ska, samba and Afrobeat.

Performing for over 20 years the group use pounding percussion and passionate harmonies to celebrate and reconnect with their ancestors.

They played the Dell Stage at WOMAD 2020 to a curious audience, drawn in by the bands percussion driven songs, costumes and call and response vocal styles.

Song Titles: Fine Voyage, Ye Mahan Maloya, Vola, Yelele, Dadabe Louwe, Okile, Yene , Arret kritike, Anon Pow War, Kile Mon Nasion, Velona Mpanjaka Anao, Zanamari.

Recorded and produced by Steve Burridge for RNZ Music
