Tuuletar are an all-female acapella quartet from Finland. Named after the wind goddess of Finnish mythology the group have created their own brand of what they describe as vocal folk-hop.

Drawing inspiration from traditional singing, the lead part is built on the vocal beat-boxing talents of Venla Ilona Blom laying down the guiding grooves for the creatively enigmatic intertwined harmonies layered on top, ranging from soft whispers to powerful four-part harmonies.

Tuuletar have gained a huge international audience in the last few years, not least because of the use of their song Alku in the television series Game Of Thrones. The groups vocal dexterity and energy certainly won over an appreciative audience on their first visit to Aotearoa for WOMAD 2020.
