The Garden - by Michelle Rahurahu Scott

From the collecton Short Stories

Michelle Rahurahu Scott (Te Arawa, Ngāti Tahu-Ngāti Whaoa) completed an MA in Creative Writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2018.  Her work can be found on Turbine, Pantograph Punch, and Ora Nui.

2018 saw Michelle win the Modern Letters Fiction Prize for her novel in progress, Pōhara. The novel is dedicated to the day-to-day mythologies of the poor and dismissed characters of modern day Aotearoa. It is set on a road trip across the North Island with cousins, Star and Ngaere, at the wheel. The two ride through the landscape of their own grief and hope for the future, while trying to repair generational trauma from the past.

The Garden is part of Page Numbers 2019 - a showcase of new work from emerging writers.
