RNZ's Sam Wicks recently spoke with Phil.

And here is a video of Phil and Chester battling it out:

Q 7 Assuming an immediate trip to that altitude, how high can you go without an oxygen mask?

  1. 3000 metres (10,000 feet)
  2. 4500 metres (15,000 feet)
  3. 6000 metres (20,000 feet)
  4. 8000 metres (26,000 feet)

A 4500 metres (15,000 feet)

At 4500 metres the air pressure is 57 percent lower than at the surface, and most people will pass out at that altitude. Climbers can go higher if they take time to acclimate. Above 8000 metres it is impossible to survive long with additional oxygen.

An interesting side note is that once a certain altitude is reached no amount of extra oxygen will sustain life because the reduction in air pressure causes bodily fluids to boil. This altitude is known as the Armstrong Limit.

In 1672 Newton published the results of a series of experiments into light refraction. The term 'colour spectrum' was introduced by him, and he chose to divide the continuous range of colours into seven bands, based on the refraction of light through a prism. These are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

One of the most famous album covers of all time, Dark Side of the Moon, features just a prism on a black background refracting light into the seven colours.
