Party People | Season 1 | Episode 5: Ngā Tūru o te Wiki - Māori Standing in General Seats

From Party People, 9:00 am on 10 October 2020

It's the final week before voting closes - as politicians make their push to the finish line what will their priorities be? What messages are resonating with voters?  Our Party People have a hundred years of political experience between them, and they share some of their predictions and reflections.

They look at Māori candidates who aren't standing in the seven Māori seats, there are a range of clever and competent Māori candidates running across the country, but who is most likely to end up with the voters' endorsement and a ticket to Pōneke?

We delve into the Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision treasure chest and play a clip from 1954, of a Māori politician encouraging people to vote by using some interesting metaphors encouraging people to think carefully before they cast their ballot. Listen to find out who it is.
