Former President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt turned down the opportunity to speak in his own defence on the final day of his trial in Cairo.

He is accused of being responsible for the deaths of more than 800 protesters in the rebellion that forced him from office last year.

Mr Mubarak denies all charges, but the prosecution has called for the death penalty.

Mr Mubarak told the judge on Wednesday he had no comment. His two sons are facing separate charges of corruption in the same trial as their father.

The judge will deliver his verdict on 2 June.
