Cognac collection for sale

6:29 am on 17 February 2012

An antique trader in Amsterdam is selling a collection of over 5000 unopened bottles of Cognac and other liquors, valued at 6 million euros ($US7.84 million).

The most valuable bottle in the collection is a Cognac taken on campaign by officers in Napoleon's army in 1795.

Bay Van der Bunt estimates that bottle is worth between 100,000 - 150,000 euros.

However, he wants to sell the entire collection to a single buyer by the end of this year, as he wants a buyer who is prepared to keep the bottles unopened rather than savouring their contents.

Publicist Bart Laming said potential buyers will be screened.

The collection was started by Mr Van der Bunt's great grandfather in 1880.
