An increasing number of communities across Africa are renouncing female genital mutilation.

The United Nations Population Fund says 2000 communities abandoned the practice in 2011, bringing to total number to 8000.

UN programme co-ordinator Nafis-satou Diop says the movement's already spread to 15 countries.
