Russia's Foreign Minister has warned that a Western military strike against Iran would be a catastrophe.
Sergei Lavrov says any such attack would fan the flames of sectarian tension in the Middle East, the BBC reports.
It follows a comment by Israel's Defence Minister, Ehud Barak, that any decision on an Israeli attack on Iran is very far off.
Tensions between Iran and Western countries have risen in recent weeks over Tehran's production of uranium.
Iran's foreign minister says negotations are being carried out for the venue and date of talks about its nuclear programme but Britain says there are no concrete plans for talks.
