Missile tests denied by Iraq

Iran has denied reports by state media that long-range missiles were test-fired during military exercises in the Gulf.

However, Commander Mahmoud Mousavi is quoted as telling Press TV that an exercise of launching missiles will be carried out in the coming days.

Earlier, the Fars news agency and other outlets reported that land-to-sea missiles had been fired.

Tensions between the West and Iran have been increasing steadily over the last year, over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

On Tuesday Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if new sanctions were imposed over its nuclear programme.

The latest round of naval exercises began last week in international waters to the east of the Strait of Hormuz. They are scheduled to last 10 days.
