Former President Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast is en route to the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands after being issued with an arrest warrant.
Mr Gbagbo's refusal to cede power to Alassane Ouattara after a presidential election last November triggered a conflict lasting four months.
Mr Ouattara's forces were backed by France. Mr Gbagbo was deposed and arrested on 11 April.
His lawyer says he was on a plane on Tuesday heading to the court in the Hague. The ICC declined to comment.
Legislative elections are due in two weeks.
