British painter Richard Wright has won this year's Turner Prize, one of the world's most prestigious and contentious art awards.

Wright won the prize for a giant fresco in paint and gold leaf covering an entire wall of the Tate Modern gallery in London.

Most of his work is made to fit an exhibition space and is demolished afterwards.

Previous winning entries include Damien Hirst's shark in formaldehyde and an unmade bed by Tracey Emin.
