Violence is continuing in Syria, despite an Arab League deadline for the government to halt its suppression of protests. There are reports of gunfire in the city of Homs.
At least 11 people were killed on Friday when security forces opened fire on demonstrators.
The Arab League has suspended Syria.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby said the league was studying a letter from Syria seeking changes to a proposed observer mission.
It has set a deadline of midnight Saturday for the government to stop its suppression of anti-government protests or face sanctions.
Reports suggest Damascus has said it will accept a delegation of 40 observers - a much smaller number than the 500 initially proposed by the League.
