A typhoon has killed at least eight people in the Philippines and is now heading towards Taiwan.
Typhoon Nanmadol carrying fierce winds of to 230 km/h and heavy rain, caused floods and landslides, with 20 major roads blocked and several bridges collapsing, a civil defence official in the Philippines said.
Among the dead were two children killed when a rubbish tip wall collapsed in the northern mountain city of Baguio.
A weakened storm, still packing gusts of 137 km/h, made landfall in eastern Taiwan on Monday.
Authorities there have evacuated 2,500 villagers from eastern and southern regions. Schools and offices have been closed, flights cancelled and public transport disrupted.
