Self exile to kick habit

9:55 pm on 1 August 2009

A man is due to be dropped off on an uninhabited island in the Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland, in a desperate bid to stop his smoking habit.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper reports that retired banker Geoff Spice will stay on the island of Sgarabhaigh for a month.

He intends it to be his final attempt to stop the habit after 43 years of lighting up.

The island has no electricity or water supply, so the 30-a-day man will have to rely on a driftwood fire, a camp stove and bottled water.
