Date set for return of Bahrain Grand Prix

8:41 am on 4 June 2011

The Bahrain Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar on 30 October.

The race, originally due to be held on 13 March, was called off in February because of pro-democracy protests in which more than 20 people died.

The FIA said that the decision was unanimous.

The Indian Grand Prix, which originally was due to be held on 30 October, will now be held in December.

Bahrain International Circuit chairman Zayed Rashid Alzayani welcomed the announcement.

''As a country we have faced a difficult time, but stability has returned,'' he said, "with businesses operating close to normal and countries removing travel restrictions.''

However, the BBC reports that the F1 teams are believed to be against a return to Bahrain.
