Pakistani MPs condemn US drone attacks

12:01 pm on 15 May 2011

Pakistan's parliament has unanimously called for a review of security and foreign policies over the US commando raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

In a strongly worded statement at the end of a 10-hour sitting in Islamabad, parliamentarians demanded an end to US drone strikes on its territory and called for an independent probe into the raid that killed Bin Laden to ensure there was no repeat.

The statement said the drone attacks must be stopped forthwith and, if they are not, the government should consider taking the necessary steps, including withdrawal of the transit facility allowed to NATO.

US strikes doubled last year, with more than 100 drone operations killing more than 670 people.
