The Black Caps reached 221 for 8 before dismissing the Proteas for 172.
Jacob Oram was named man of the match after claiming four wickets and taking a brilliant catch on the boundary to turn the match in favour of the Black Caps.
New Zealand will meet either Sri Lanka and England in the semi-final.
