Dresden anniversary marked

The German city of Dresden on Sunday marked the anniversary of the Allied bombing raid in 1945.

A massive bombing raid by Allied forces on Dresden beginning on 13, February, 1945 sparked a firestorm that destroyed much of the centre of the city.

In March last year, an official commission concluded that up to 25,000 people died in the raids, fewer than often estimated.

As in previous years, relatives of British victims of the World War II bombing campaigns joined Germans in Dresden to remember the dead.
