Japanese carmaker Toyota says a US Government investigation into the safety of its vehicles has confirmed the reliability of their electronic control systems.
The American inquiry lasted 10 months and involved engineers from NASA, the BBC reports.
The world's largest car maker is, as far as the United States is concerned, in the clear.
Toyota recalled about 12 million vehicles from late 2009 globally after reports of sudden spurts of acceleration cropped up across the US.
Defective accelerator pedals and floor mats were blamed, as was driver error.
But the US Congress wanted to know if Toyota's electronically controlled throttle, which regulates the flow of air into the engine, might be faulty.
The report issued on Tuesday said it was not and Toyota's shares climbed quickly in New York.
