Authorities in Western Australia say it may be days before some residents are allowed to go back to homes which have been destroyed or damaged in bushfires.
A blaze swept through Perth's south-eastern suburbs from midday on Sunday destroying more than 60 homes.
The blaze, which has burnt through 450 hectares of land, has been brought under control but fire crews fear it could flare again.
Other fires have been burning elsewhere around the Perth area but are not posing a risk to lives or homes.
Dozens of residents were given the all clear to return to their homes on Monday night but hundreds of other people spent another night with family or friends, or in an evacuation centre.
Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesperson Craig Hynes says there are a lot of severely damaged properties, as well as power lines and trees that could cause "significant damage to people" if residents are allowed back too soon.
He says some residents will be escorted to their properties to survey the damage today.
