Ski tournament being held in Swat valley

Pakistan is hosting a skiing tournament in the Swat valley - an area previously controlled by the Taliban.

Six Pakistani teams are taking part in the competition near the village of Malam Jabba, in the north-west province of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

The resort, which had been popular with tourists, was over-run by the Taliban in 2006 and was later blown up.

The BBC reports the Taliban was driven out by the army in 2009.

The ski resort, the only one in the country, has now been rebuilt and is fully operational. The tournament is the first for three years.
